The IRS will begin to accept electronically filed individual income tax returns for 2021 beginning on January 24, 2022.
This year, your Form 1040 is due on April 18, 2022 (not April 15th). This is because of the Emancipation Day holiday.
If you cannot file by April 18th, you can request an extension of time to file until October 17, 2022. Remember though that this is only an extension of time to file, not to pay your taxes.
It is best to file your return electronically, choose direct deposit if you are getting a refund and file it as early as you can!
